SASKATCHEWAN WALLEYE TRAIL

While the opening day tournament at Buffalo Pound didn't go as well as my partner, Terry Ewanchyna and I had hoped, another familiar name in the SWT circuit rose to the top and once again proved that he is one of our top tournament anglers.

Delvin Kushniryk, fishing with his wife Linda showed the competition that even when he doesn't get in his usual 5 days of prefishing, he can put a pattern together and put walleyes in the well during a tough bite.

Of the 58 teams working the waters only 4 teams managed a 5 fish limit, 26 teams blanked and it only took 5.8 lbs to get into the bottom end of the prizes.  Delvin and Linda however, managed to put together a 20.6 lb weight and what makes this even more amazing is that the 5 fish they didn't keep weighed enough to win 3rd place.  There were a lot of teams that would have loved to have the fish they threw back.

For those of you that don't know Delvin, he has been fishing the SWT circuit since it started and has accomplished many wins, high placings and awards.  Not only is Delvin a great competitor he is also a strong supporter of the SWT,  he and Linda own Canadian Oakworks and sponsor the highest placing new SWT member award at each tournament to the tune of $1000.00 per year.

When you see Delvin and Linda at Elbow make sure and give them your congratulations.

We better all hope that he never sells his business, if he retires and has more time to fish, the rest of us don't stand a chance.

Jason Nelson, and Colby Kivol were second with 5 fish and a weight of 16.9 lbs.

Boundary Dam

Here is an example that shows not only the seasoned tournament anglers can win.

Ardon Rosom and Dwight Tonn spent their opening day at the Boundary dam walleye tournament and after placing in the money the past 2 years improved on that this year and won the tournament with a weight of 16.42 lbs.  What made this even more exciting was that CTV was filming the tournament and they were interviewed at the end of the day.

Ardon and Dwight only started fishing tournaments a few years ago, starting with the 2004 Last Mountain fall tournament at Rowan's.  Looks to me like we have another team of anglers on the SWT that we will be seeing on the stage more often.

Congratulations guys and see you at Elbow.
