Saskatchewan Landing Walleye Tournament, July 16- 17, 2005
| The SWT would like to thank all the members that
participated in the 2005 Sask Landing Walleye Tournament. Amongst the
rumors that the tournament was cancelled and knowing that the fishing would
probably be tough due to the unusually high water levels, 60 teams
participated in this tournament. Even though the fishing was slow, from a check of the results you will see that only 3 teams weighed no fish, even tournaments with above average catches of walleye usually have more teams that don't make the board. There can be a big advantage to tournaments with low weights, just ask Greg Earis and Tony Hadi whose persistence paid off with a 12.8 lb walleye that rocketed them ahead by 32 places from their day 1 weight and won them a multitude of prizes and cash, 1st place and 150 points on their SWT point standings. In addition there is a very good chance that this fish will win the big fish of the year and bring on more cash and recognition. Greg and Tony weren't the only team that went away happy, with all the SWT prizes, the regular tournament prizes for the top 15 teams, the organizers also put together so many additional prizes for hidden weights etc. I'm sure that the majority of teams left with some winnings in hand. For example, the team of Simon and Lex Houdek won $100.00 cash from the SWT for their 30th place finish as well as a free entry for next year as a draw prize from the organizing committee. I would also like to point out that from the info I received from other anglers, the top 3 teams were each fishing in a different area of the lake. This is a great tournament and although there are years when it can be challenging there have also been many years (i.e. 2004) where the fishing has been as good or better than most other tournaments. Thank you to the organizers and we look forward to next year. |
